Mark A. Swickard  D.C.

My father was a chiropractor so you could accurately say that I have been surrounded by chiropractic all my life. At a very young age, I saw how many lives my father had changed because of his strong belief in chiropractic. Something stirred in me as a child and young adult when he would tell one of his success stories, sharing how a patient who had been everywhere else turned to chiropractic as their last resort. He was almost always able to help them. It inspired me to want to do what he did, so it wasn't 'if' I would become a chiropractor, it was 'when'.

After graduating from Kansas State University with a Physical Science degree, I attended Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. After graduating in 1988 I joined my father in practice where for 3 years I gained valuable 'on the job' experience. I then relocated my practice to Shawnee in 1991 and practiced in the same building until 2007, when I realized a life-long dream and designed and built a new office building. I took great care in the design of our new space to create a relaxing, yet energetic healing environment with the latest state-of-the-art technology and treatment.

From the beginning my practice has focused on the treatment of families and children seeking care for optimal health and wellness. In 1996, I furthered my training becoming certified in the treatment of sports injuries and I have always enjoyed working with athletes of all kinds for specialized injury care and prevention.

My wife, Michele, and I reside in Stilwell, Kansas with our 3 children, Riley, Jake, and Sam. Having grown up in the Kansas City area I'm very familiar with the home-town environment that Shawnee and the surrounding cities have to offer the residents of our great community. I felt particularly familiar with the strong sense of community Shawnee had to offer 17 years ago, which has only reinforced my commitment to positively impact the health of our local residents through a desire to deliver quality care honestly and with integrity.

During my free time, you will see me spending time with my family and enjoying my children's activities. I'm an avid outdoorsman and love a good game of golf.

My chiropractic journey began in my early teens. As an avid sports enthusiast I was treated regularly by a chiropractor in my hometown of Chanute, KS. I never really understood what was happening during those visits at the time, however, I knew it helped my performance and I stayed healthy.

I attended Ottawa University on a basketball scholarship and was able to continue my sports passion. It was during a job the summer before my senior year that I suffered a back injury that propelled me into becoming a chiropractor. During my chiropractic visits, I began questioning what was really taking place during my treatments. I had always veered away from medications and discovered that chiropractic and my philosophy on health aligned.

Upon graduating from OU in 2007, I enrolled at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, TX. In 2011, I graduated and purchased a practice in Valley Falls, KS. In 2017, I became a trained and endorsed practitioner of The Chiropractic Hand & Foot Clinics of America (CHFA) focusing on adjusting extremities. It was at one of the CHFA seminars that I met Dr. Mark Swickard and shortly after joined the Swickard Chiropractic team. I want to change lives through chiropractic care and am excited to be here.
I met my wife Emily at OU. We live in Tonganoxie, KS and the proud parents of an awesome son. In addition to spending time with my family I enjoy playing basketball and golf as well as cheering on my favorite sport teams; the Chiefs, KU and the Royals.
